Kids Free Fishing Day

8/21/2021 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville, MO

On Aug. 21, Roaring River State Park will have its annual Kids Free Fishing Day. Youth will have the opportunity to fish all day for free, along with the opportunity to connect with nature and participate in many different activities.

Children 15 and younger will be able to get tags from the hatchery the night before the event – Friday, Aug. 20 – and Saturday, Aug. 21 for free. One section of the river will be specially designated for youth under the age of 15 to fish in all day long. Adults will not be allowed to fish by themselves in this area. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing pole and equipment. Some good-sized lunker trout will even be released for the youth to try and catch. There will be volunteers present to help in any way possible. Parents/guardians are welcome to help the children as needed, but only one pole between the helper and the kid may be used at any time.

There will be several different programs and activities available throughout the day available to both the children and their parents. Programs will include furs and skulls, live snakes, a hatchery tour, and more. Programs are subject to change depending on staffing and weather. There will be live bluegrass bands playing periodically throughout the day. These programs are a great way for both the parents and the children to learn new information and skills.

Come out to beautiful Roaring River State Park to connect with nature and watch the kids catch some fish. The event will be held rain, snow or shine, assuming conditions are deemed safe.
