World Atlatl Day 2020

Join park staff and members of the Missouri Atlatl Association in celebration of World Atlatl Day at the upper field near the park boat ramp at Graham Cave State Park. Members of the Missouri Atlatl Association will demonstrate the use and accuracy of this tool designed with a notch on one end to hold spears and darts for hunting by Native Americans. The Missouri Atlatl Association is also hosting an International Standard Accuracy Contest (ISAC) between contestants. Visitors may view the demonstration and competition. Park staff will be on-site to assist the public with social distancing guidelines up to the capacity permitted by COVID-19 safety directives.

For attendees interested in learning more about the atlatl and/or Missouri Atlatl Association, future events are planned to help teach the use and application of the atlatl and other archery tools utilized by Native Americans in the area. Please bring a lawn chair, insect repellent, drinking water, a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.
