Canceled: First Saturday Lecture: "An American Story: The Redd Family Portraits"

4/4/2020 | Arrow Rock State Historic Site | Arrow Rock, MO

This event has been canceled.

Join us at the historic site for a First Saturday Lecture from historian and antique collector Mack Cox, titled "An American Story: the Redd Family Portraits."

Rebecca Allen Redd and her four sons moved to Lafayette County in 1857. During the Civil War, her son Oliver Frazer Redd became a captain in the Confederacy, serving as the aide de camp to Gen. Jo Shelby. Shelby’s wife Nancy Elizabeth and their son Orville lived with Mrs. Redd for much of the war.

The Redd family portraits tell the story of the marriages, mentorship and geography that entwined the lives of two of Kentucky’s most important artists, Matthew Harris Jouett (1788-1827) and Oliver Frazer (1808-1864), and their descendants.

This lecture is free and open to the public.

Lecture Time: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.
