First Day Hike

1/1/2019 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville, MO

Join us as we celebrate a new year in nature! A naturalist will lead a 1.5-mile hike on Devil's Kitchen Trail at Roaring River State Park on New Year’s Day as part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.

Devil’s Kitchen Trail’s name is derived from an odd rock outcrop that formed a room-like enclosure. According to legend, this room, which has since collapsed, was used as a hideout by Civil War guerrillas. This trail showcases other geologic features such as caves, a spring, the geologic bench and different landscapes and plants associated with them. This hike is free and open to the public. Dress appropriately for the weather and bring water and snacks.

Hike time: 2 p.m. - 4 p.m.
Meeting Location: Devil's Kitchen Trail Trailhead

First Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and you will be joining hikers from all 50 states. For more information about hikes in Missouri State Parks, click here.
