First Day Hike

1/1/2019 | Big Sugar Creek State Park | Pineville, MO

Join us as we celebrate a new year in nature! A naturalist will lead a 3-mile hike on Ozark Chinquapin Trail at Big Sugar Creek State Park on New Year’s Day as part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative. First Day Hikes offer a great way to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature and welcome the New Year with friends and family.

Ozark Chinquapin Trail winds through Elk River Breaks Natural Area for those who want to enjoy the beauty and solitude of the area. The trail follows a small bedrock stream, which is surrounded with steep hills on both sides. The trail then climbs into the upland woodlands and glades, with opportunities to see local plants and animals, and some wonderful views across the rugged Elk River landscape. Please dress for the weather and bring water and snacks. For more information, call 417-847-3742.

Hike time: 9 a.m. - Noon
Meeting Location: Ozark Chiquapin Trail Trailhead

First Day Hikes are promoted by America’s State Parks and you will be joining hikers from all 50 states. For more information about hikes in Missouri State Parks, click here.
