Join Missouri State Park staff in celebrating the renowned Missouri painter, Thomas Hart Benton, at Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site and Nelson-Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Missouri.
Thomas Hart Benton is Missouri's most renowned 20th century artist. In 1935, Benton was awarded a commission for the mural in the state Capitol. During the tour, participants will have a look inside the way the Benton family lived and how the home was a center of creative and cultural activity during that time.
After lunch, we will travel to the Nelson-Atkins Museum to view the temporary ‘American Epics: Thomas Hart Benton and Hollywood’ exhibit. This exhibit, the first major exhibition on Thomas Hart Benton in more than 25 years, reveals the fascinating relationship between Benton's art, movie making and visual storytelling in 20th century America.
