Kansas City Outreach: Lewis and Clark Day

8/22/2015

Join Missouri State Parks staff for a trip to Lewis and Clark State Park in Rushville. We will be taking a bus from Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center, located at 4750 Troost Ave. in Kansas City. The bus will depart at 9 a.m.

The Lewis and Clark Expedition headed west in 1804 and encountered a lake that William Clark described as "full of Geese & Goslings." Today, that lake is Lewis and Clark Lake, which is bordered by Lewis and Clark State Park.

The program will include a keelboat presentation of Lewis and Clark's journey. Who went on the journey, what did they pack for the journey, and how did the crew maneuver the keelboat?

In remembrance of Lewis and Clark's historic journey that began in 1803, the group will tour and experience the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Plaza, which was incorporated into the landscape of the park in 2006.

Please bring a lunch to enjoy at the historic stone picnic shelter built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930s. Coolers with ice will be provided for your use. Please dress appropriately for activities and weather.

Registration is required, and limited space is available. Contact Melissa at 816-759-7313, ext. 1162, to register.

Event times: 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.
