Footprint Hike

1/1/2015 | Bennett Spring State Park | Lebanon, MO

Footprint Hike is a fun activity to enjoy on the 1/3-mile Oak Hickory trail. Pick up a mammal track card and map at the nature center to start.  Identify ‘footprints’ along the trail.  There will be prizes for all participants!

The trail is so named for the deciduous forest type composed of different kinds of oak and hickory trees. The trail follows a generally gentle grade up and along the hillside to the east of the nature center.  Entrances to the trail are behind the nature center and the trail overlaps with Bridge Trail for a portion of the distance. At the top of the hill, the latter branches off further up the hill and winds down to other trails to the north. Much of the tread is narrow and rocky in some places. As the trail reaches the bottom of the hill, it crosses a small stream and winds through a bottomland forest of hackberry, elm, oak and shrubs. Those age 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Hike time: Any time between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

This hike is being held in conjunction with the nationwide First Day Hike event sponsored by America's State Parks. Click here for more information about all of the First Day Hikes being held in Missouri State Parks.
