5/2/2012 | Missouri State Museum | Jefferson City, MO
In May, the Missouri State Museum will continue to have “Museum after Hours” on the first Wednesday of each month, when museum galleries will stay open until 9 p.m. This month, guest speaker Mark Houseman, from the Washington Historical Society in Washington, Mo., will present a program called "Tombstone Iconography and Imagery" at 7 p.m. He will discuss the meaning behind dozens of images commonly found on tombstones in the east and central portions of Missouri. These images tell the story of a person's life, or how they are remembered. Included are fraternal societies, religions, lambs, weeping willows and those intriguing pointing fingers. This program will take place in the museum classroom, which is located in the History Hall (east wing). Evening entry to the museum will be through the carriage entrance on the south side of the building underneath the grand staircase. Click here to read the news release.
