Canceled: Hispano Capitalista of the Santa Fe Trail

10/12/2024 | Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site | Lawson, MO

This event has been canceled.

In 1821, Missouri became a state, and Mexico became a nation, the latter having gained its independence from Spain. Shortly after achieving independence, Mexico opened trade with the United States. Hispano and American entrepreneurs were ready and able to make the Santa Fe Trail a two-way international trade route and a conduit for cultural exchange between the two nations.

This presentation will explore the role of Hispano capitalists who facilitated the success of the Santa Fe Trail. The presentation will take place inside the visitor center at Watkins Woolen Mill State Historic Site. This event is free and open to the public, and there is no need to register. More information can be obtained by calling the site office at 816-580-3387.

This presentation is sponsored by the Missouri Speakers Bureau. The Missouri Speakers Bureau is jointly organized and managed by Missouri Humanities and the State Historical Society of Missouri.
