Celestial Showers

Guests are invited to take part in a special opportunity to view the Perseid meteor shower under a dark sky at Washington State Park on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024 in the Big River Day-Use Area, near Shelter 2.

The event will include multiple activities:

Petroglyph Tour – 4 p.m. at the petroglyph site 
Enjoy a short stroll on a covered walkway with interpretive panels highlighting the cultural features.

Celestial Dance – 6 p.m. in the Big River Day-Use Area
See a fun demonstration of how the meteors are made using ice cream and Starbursts as props.

Mini-Me Woodhenge – 7 p.m. in the Big River Day-Use Area
Build a miniature model of a Woodhenge to bring home with you. Learn about the Woodhenge built by American Indians at Cahokia Mounds.

Snacks and Showers – 9 p.m. in the Big River Day-Use Area
Gather around a community campfire to make s'mores and hear star stories from around the world. 

Individual Meteor Shower Viewing – 10 p.m. in the Big River Day-Use Area
Guests can disperse and view the meteor shower individually.
