Field Trip Sampler

8/3/2024 | Mastodon State Historic Site | Imperial, MO

Have you ever wanted to attend a field trip at Mastodon State Historic Site? Now is your chance! All ages are invited to experience our standard field trip program by participating in the Field Trip Sampler program!

Just like our regular field trips, this program will begin in the museum auditorium with a showing of the site film and an interpreter-led presentation about the people and animals that lived in Missouri over 12,000 years ago. Next, your field trip guide will take you through the museum, pointing out objects of interest and standing by to answer any questions. Finally, weather permitting, the program will conclude with a half-mile guided hike to the bone bed, where excavations that uncovered mastodons and other creatures occurred.

The 0.5 mile hike will take place on Wildflower Trail, which includes uneven, natural pavement and stairs. Those who are interested in the field trip program but do not wish to hike are welcome to depart the tour before the hike begins. In the event of inclement weather, the hike will be omitted and the program will last approximately one hour.

The Field Trip Sampler is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome.

Participants should meet at the historic site museum, located at 1050 Charles J. Becker Drive in Imperial.
