Learn to Fish

7/29/2023 | Thousand Hills State Park | Kirksville, MO

Come learn to fish with park staff!

We will begin with a demonstration of casting lines, tying hooks, baiting the hook, reeling in fish, and unhooking the fish. This demonstration will be on the shoreline closer to the dining lodge. After the demonstration, participants will have about two and a half hours to fish with assistance from park staff and volunteers.

This event is free and open to the public, and registration is not required. A limited supply of equipment will available for use. If you have your own fishing gear, please bring it. Fishing licenses are required for all anglers ages 16-64, as well as those 65 and older who are not Missouri residents. Daily and yearly permits can be purchased at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s regional office or online.

All programs are weather permitting. Check out Thousand Hills State Park on Facebook for cancellations, location changes and other park information.
