Pioneer Games

7/14/2023 | Bennett Spring State Park | Lebanon, MO

Pioneer children had simple toys and games made out of any available materials, such as pebbles, rope and pieces of wood. Dolls were made out of wool and scraps of material. Join park staff for games and activities of early settlement children, such as fox and geese, shadow tag, drop the handkerchief, dare base, marbles, ducks fly, Simon says, hot and cold, checkers, cards, tic-tac-toe, cat's cradle, hopscotch, ring toss, and “Who has the button?”

Games will be played according to the size and interest of the group, and will take place inside and outside the nature center. All activities are free and open to the public. Participants are welcome to bring their own pioneer toys to share with others.
