5/16/2020 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville, MO
On May 16, Roaring River State Park will have its annual Kids Free Fishing Day. Youth will have the opportunity to fish all day for free and the chance to connect with nature and participate in many different activities. At 5 p.m., there will be a large drawing for giveaways. Children under the age of 15 will be able to get tags from the hatchery for free the night before the event (Friday, May 15) or on the day of the event (Saturday, May 16).
During the event, one section of the river will be specially designated for youth under the age of 15 to fish in. Adults are not allowed to fish by themselves in this area. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing poles and equipment. Some good-sized lunker trout will even be released for the youngsters to try to catch. Volunteers will be present to help in any way possible. Parents and guardians are welcome to help their children as needed, but only one pole may be used between the helper and the child/youth at any one time. Free hot dogs, chips and soda will be available between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Several different programs and activities will be available to both the children and their parents throughout the day. Programs will include fish cooking, fish casting, fly fishing, knot tying, fly tying, watersheds, furs and skulls, live snakes, and a hatchery tour. There will be a live bluegrass band playing periodically throughout the day. Programs are subject to change depending on staffing and weather. These programs are a great way for both the parents and the children to learn new skills and information. Children who attend three programs will be entered into the drawing held at 5 p.m. Children must be present to win. Programs are open to the whole family, but only children may participate in the drawing.
Come out to beautiful Roaring River State Park to connect with nature and watch the kids catch some fish. The event will be held rain, snow, or shine, assuming conditions are deemed safe.
Fishing Times: 6:30 a.m. - 8:15 p.m.
