Veterans Free Fishing Day

4/27/2019 | Bennett Spring State Park | Lebanon, MO

There is no license or daily tag fee for veterans on this day. Veterans can pick up their free fishing tags at the park store or near the special hospitality tent. The hospitality tent will feature fly-tying demos, lessons, casting instruction and the latest adaptive fishing equipment. Fishing may occur anywhere in the park; however, a special designated fishing area will be provided for veterans in Zone 2.  The fishing area will be specially stocked and reserved for veteran anglers.  Volunteers and equipment will be available to help near the special event tent. Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing Inc. out of St. Louis will be present to assist veterans. Casting, fly-tying demonstrations, MAD Fly Challenge and more are planned.

Rainbow trout are stocked daily in all fishing zones at the park. There are three fishing zones on the stream. Each zone has specific fishing bait rules. Only flies are permitted in Zone One. This zone runs from the hatchery dam upstream to the spring output. Zone Two runs from the hatchery dam downstream to Whistle Bridge. Only flies and artificial lures are permitted. Zone Three runs from Whistle Bridge downstream to the confluence of the Niangua River. Zone Three bait includes soft plastic bait that is unscented. Natural and scented bait are permitted. All flies and artificial lures are prohibited, even if natural bait or scent has been added. The statewide daily limit is four trout.

This event is sponsored by the Missouri Department of Conservation and Bennett Spring State Park.
