5/19/2018 | Roaring River State Park | Cassville, MO
Youth have the opportunity to fish all day for free along with the chance to connect to nature and participate in many different activities. At 5 p.m., a large drawing for many giveaways will be held.
Children under the age of the 15 will be able to get tags from the hatchery Friday May 18 and Saturday May 19 for free. There will be one section of the river specially designated for youth under the age of 15 to fish in all day long. Adults are not allowed to be fishing by themselves in this area. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing pole and equipment. Some good-sized lunker trout will be released for the youth to try and catch. There will be volunteers present to help in any way possible. Parents/guardians are welcome to help the children as need be, but only one pole between the helper and the kid may be used at any time. Free hot dogs, chips and soda will be available between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
There will be several different programs and activities available throughout the day available to both children and their parents. Programs vary from fish cooking, fish casting, fly fishing, knot tying, fly tying, watersheds, furs and skulls, live snakes and a hatchery tour, along with other programs. There will be a live bluegrass band playing periodically throughout the day. Programs are subject to change depending on staffing and weather. These programs are a great way for both the parents and the children to learn new information and skills.
Children who attend three of these classes/programs will be entered in for a drawing to be held at 5 p.m. Children must be present to win. Programs are open to the whole family but only children are allowed to be entered in the drawing.
Come out to beautiful Roaring River State Park to connect with nature and watch the kids catch some fish. The event will be held rain, snow or shine, assuming conditions are deemed safe.
