4/7/2018 | Battle of Pilot Knob State Historic Site | Pilot Knob, MO
The historic site is participating in Park Day 2018, which is an annual event sponsored by The Civil War Trust that gives volunteers an opportunity to help their favorite state or federal battlefield park. To participate, meet at the visitor center, where volunteers will sign up and begin various tasks like trash collecting, simple grounds keeping or helping at the visitor center. The historic site will provide any tools that might be needed and water. Restaurants are nearby for those staying through lunch time, but picnic shelters are available at the historic site, too.
The Turner Brigade, a U.S. Civil War reenactor group will hold their Spring Drill during Park Day. They will camp on the battlefield and present Missouri Civil War living history in period dress with cavalry, artillery and infantry drills. They will begin at 8 a.m. and continue through much of the day, until late afternoon. The public is invited to visit the camp and watch the drills. Civil War reenacting is a family activity and Turner Brigade members are always happy to be on hand for conversation. For more information, call Brick at 573-546-3454.
