7/11/2012 | Missouri State Museum | Jefferson City, MO
In July, the Missouri State Museum will continue to have the "Museum after Hours" event, when museum galleries will stay open until 9 p.m. Please note that because of the July Fourth holiday, "Museum after Hours" will be held on Wednesday, July 11.
Starting at 7 p.m., you will get a chance to view a special exhibit called "Trunkful of Treasures." After her retirement, artist Florence Klusman created a whole collection of miniature items from paper, including home furnishings with a rag rug and flower pot, and a band complete with piano and piano player. Some think the prize of the collection is her 1907 Case tractor replica with working parts, made from old issues of the Kansas City Star. The "treasures" will be in the museum classroom, which is located in the History Hall (east wing). A museum staff member will be on hand to talk about the Klusman collection.
“Museum after Hours” allows a more relaxed time to view all of the museum exhibits, especially if you have ever wondered what it would be like to visit the museum at night, or your schedule doesn’t allow daytime outings. You will find both old favorites and new including “Civil War Missouri: A House Dividing,” an exhibit that commemorates the 150th anniversary of the Civil War. Evening entry to the museum will be through the carriage entrance on the south side of the building underneath the grand staircase. Click here to read the news release.
