Ladies, do you love to hike? Do you want to try backpacking, but just don't know where to start? This is the perfect event for you! In this introductory overnight event, you will learn all the basics of backpacking! We will cover topics like fire safety, bear bagging and so much more! This event gives women the chance to learn about camping and backpacking in a safe, comfortable and judgment-free environment. Missouri State Parks will provide basic gear! So, what are you waiting for? Let’s hit the trail together. Women of all experience levels are welcome!
Dates:
Overnight experience from Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26
Times:
April 25: noon to 8 p.m. (Check-in starts at noon.)
April 26: 7 a.m. to noon
Location:
Weston Bend State Park – Meet at the Bee Creek Shelter, located half a mile west of the park's main entrance. Bee Creek Shelter cannot be accessed by entering the park via the main entrance.
Age Requirements:
Participants must be at least 10 years old, and any participants who are under the age of 18 years must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or older.
No Equipment? No Experience? No problem!
We understand you might have an interest in backpacking and that’s as far as it goes. We are here to provide a safe, guided experience. Best of all, this includes the basic essential equipment! You will still need to acquire some personal equipment if you do not already have it. Please look over the following checklist to see what you may need to purchase.

- Tent
- Sleeping bag, liner and pad
- First-aid kit
- Bug spray
- Water filter
- Camp stove and fuel
- Camp cooking set and utensils
- Bear vault

Registration, Refunds and Cancellations:
Registration is $25, and there is a maximum of eight participants.
Click on the "REGISTER HERE" link below to register. When you get to the registration website, click on the “Show 1 session available” box below the backpacking listing. Then, click on the green "Sign up!" button to register.
Registration opens open and close dates are listed on the registration website. All slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Confirmation Packet:
Participants will receive a confirmation email after registration has been completed (please allow five days for processing). The confirmation email will include a detailed agenda, special instructions for the class day, and a map with directions to the park.
Waitlist:
If the activity you are looking to join is full, please join our waitlist by signing up for that program on the registration tab. Once a cancellation has been approved, a staff member will contact the first waitlist individual via email to prompt them to secure their spot within a 48-hour period. No response within that 48-hour time period will result in the customer being removed from the waitlist and the next individual being contacted.
How to Cancel a Reservation:
Seven or more business days in advance of the scheduled event date: Customers are able to cancel their reservations themselves and receive a full refund. To cancel, the customer should log in to their icampmo account, find the reservations/activities that they are signed up for, and hit "Cancel" for the reservation that they wish to cancel.
Six or fewer business days in advance of the scheduled event date: Anyone needing to cancel a reservation six or fewer business days in advance of the scheduled event date should contact emma.elwood@dnr.mo.gov. Per Missouri State Parks' refund policy, customers canceling an event registration six or fewer business days in advance of the scheduled event date agree to forfeit their reservation refund, regardless of the circumstances.
Program Change Policy:
Organizers reserve the right to cancel, reschedule or relocate any proposed offering. In the event that the program is canceled by Missouri State Parks, customers will be refunded in full to the original form of payment within seven business days of the cancellation notice.
