First Day Hike

at Missouri State Museum

1/1/2025 | Jefferson Landing State Historic Site/Missouri State Museum | Jefferson City, MO.

Join Missouri State Museum staff for an urban exploration around Jefferson Landing State Historic Site, the Capitol complex, and Jefferson City Parks’ Deborah Cooper Park on Adrian’s Island. Staff will provide a tour as we take in the views of the Missouri River and the historic buildings. The hike will cover about 1.5 miles on sidewalks with some slight-to-moderate inclines, including the Bicentennial Bridge.

It may be windy and chilly during the hike. Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate shoes, dress warmly, and bring water. Museum staff will be using a sound system that works with your favorite old-school headphones with a standard 3.5-millimeter headphone jack to help you hear all the great info. A limited supply of disposable earbuds will be available.

This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, but families with small children are encouraged to use strollers to keep pace with the group. Leashed pets are also allowed.

Registration is required and can be completed by using the link provided here. If the hike is canceled, an announcement will be emailed to registrants and posted on the museum's Facebook page and the Park and Site Status Map.

First Day Hikes are promoted by America's State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year. For more information about this hike, please call the Missouri State Museum at 573-751-2854.
