1/1/2026 | Dr. Edmund A. Babler Memorial State Park | Wildwood, MO.

Join park staff for a guided First Day Hike on Hawthorn Trail. This moderately difficult trail offers a scenic hike along both sides of a narrow ridge where hikers will see distinct changes in plants and habitats. The senior naturalist will highlight some of the unique geology and glade ecology, as well as the natural features and wildlife signs that are revealed in the winter landscape. The hike will cover a distance of about 1.2 miles. Meet at the trailhead near the Alta Picnic Shelter at 10 a.m.

This event is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome, but the hike is not accessible for strollers or wheelchairs. Participants should dress for the weather and bring water. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash. A limited number of commemorative patches will be available for participants to take home.

Registration is required and can be completed using the link provided here. If the hike is canceled, an announcement will be emailed to registrants and posted on the park's Facebook page and the Park and Site Status Map.

First Day Hikes are promoted by America's State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year. For more information about this hike, please call the park office 636-458-3813.
