Beach Chair Program

Missouri State Parks strives to provide accessible outdoor recreation for all. Beach chairs can help visitors access designated swim areas that may not be suitable for traditional wheelchairs. Missouri State Parks currently has 18 beach chairs in place across the state.

User Information

  • Use of a beach chair is free and available on a first-come, first-served basis, during normal beach hours.
  • Visitors should contact the park office or designated location to check out a beach chair.
  • Park staff is not permitted to assist in transferring a person into or out of a beach chair or in pushing the beach chair with a person in the chair.
  • Beach chairs must be checked out by an adult, 18 years of age or older.
  • The prospective chair user, or a responsible adult, must present a valid photo ID and a completed Beach Chair Program User Agreement at the time of checkout.
  • A responsible adult, age 18 years or older, must always accompany the beach chair user.
  • The weight limit for those using the beach chair is 253 pounds.
  • It is recommended that a Coast Guard-approved personal flotation device be worn at all times while using the beach chair.
  • Avoid using the beach chair in adverse weather and other poor conditions.
