Persimmon Festival

at Scott Joplin House State Historic Site

Forest ReLeaf of Missouri will host its second annual Persimmon Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17. This community-focused event celebrates native persimmons with fun and educational activities for all ages.

The festival will take place at Forest ReLeaf's City Tree Farm, located within Scott Joplin House State Historic Site at 2700 Samuel Shepard Drive in St. Louis. It will begin at 10:30 a.m. and end at noon. Admission is free and open to the public.

Event Activities

Activities will include native tree giveaways from Forest ReLeaf, as well as programming tables from Missouri State Parks, EarthDance Organic Farm School, the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Forestkeepers Network. The St. Louis Public Library will host a story time activity, and Bobby Norfolk and Royce Martin will present a program entitled "Scott Joplin's Musical Nature Connections."

  • 10:40 a.m. -- "Scott Joplin's Musical Nature Connections" by Royce Martin and Bobby Norfolk
  • 11 a.m. -- Story time with the St. Louis Public Library
  • 11:20 a.m. -- Community awards presented by Forest ReLeaf of Missouri
  • 11:40 a.m. -- "Scott Joplin's Musical Nature Connections" by Royce Martin and Bobby Norfolk

How to Get a Free Tree

Guests wanting to obtain a tree through the tree giveaway must reserve a tree online. Species featured in the giveaway include redbud, bald cypress, Kentucky coffeetree, river birch and swamp white oak.
