First Day Hike
1/1/2026 | Hawn State Park | Ste. Genevieve, MO.
Meet park staff at the Spanish Land Grant Trail trailhead at 1 p.m. for Hawn’s First Day Hike. First Day Hikes are promoted by America's State Parks and are held at parks across the country at the start of each year.
This moderately difficult guided hike will cover all 3.8 miles of Spanish Land Grant Trail. Participants will enjoy upland hardwoods, as well as a section of trail along the creek. This event is free and open to the public, but registration is required.
Spanish Land Grant Trail consists of natural surfaces and goes through some of the park's most beautiful open pine and oak woodlands. The trail is not suitable for strollers or wheelchairs, as it has some loose rocks and uneven terrain. However, children are encouraged to participate, and dogs are welcome if they are leashed. All participants should dress for the weather, wear closed-toe hiking shoes, and bring water and snacks.
More information about the hike can be obtained by calling the park office at 573-883-3603. If the hike is canceled, an announcement will be emailed to registrants and posted on our Park and Site Status Map.
