1/1/2025 | Rock Bridge Memorial State Park | Columbia, MO
The rugged terrain of the Gans Creek Wild Area will provide the challenge of a vigorous hike up and down hills but will also provide grand views from overlooks including Shooting Star Bluff. Take the route less traveled starting and ending at the Wagon Wheel Trailhead. The distance is estimated at 4 miles. There will be two creek crossings that are rocky and usually allow hikers to keep their feet dry; if the water is up, the route will be adjusted to avoid crossing Gans Creek. We will visit a shelter cave on the side of a steep hill, and there will be good opportunities to see birds and other wildlife.
This hike is for ages 8 and up and is not stroller accessible. We prefer that dogs do not join us on the hike. Participants should bring water, dress for the weather, and wear shoes that are suitable for muddy or snowy conditions.
We will meet at the Wagon Wheel Trailhead. From Grindstone Parkway, go south on Bearfield Road until it dead-ends.
This event is free, but space is limited and registration is required. Click here to register.
