Tom Bass: The Horse Whisperer
11/12/2026 | Rock Bridge Memorial State Park | Columbia, Mo.
Rock Bridge Memorial State Park will host motivational storyteller and reenactor Br. John in his one-person interactive play entitled "Tom Bass Commencement."
In the play, Br. John portrays Tom Bass, who was born into slavery in Boone County before becoming a world-renowned horse trainer. The play provides insights on Bass' humble beginnings, his creation of the American Royal Saddlehorse Show, and his rise to stardom through success in equestrian ballet events. This performance not only sheds light on an often-overlooked Missourian but also emphasizes the values of resilience, compassion and cooperation.
The event will begin at 6 p.m. and last about an hour. Admission is free and open to everyone at least 10 years of age. Space is limited, and online registration is required. You will receive more information upon registering.
If the event is canceled due to inclement weather, it will be made up on Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 6 p.m.
