The Civil War Diary of Pvt. John Sebastian Winterbottom: Co. B, 3rd Missouri Cavalry

Click on the link at the right of this page to read his diary, which runs from September 1862 to June 1865. His time in Pilot Knob was in spring of 1863 during the movements in southeast Missouri against Confederate Gen. John S. Marmaduke’s raid into the area and his company fighting near Jackson, Missouri. Included are his service in Arkansas and the events in Arkansas immediately following the surrender of Lee and the assassination of President Lincoln. The diary is presented as a courtesy by Clare Mooney Stone and her family.
