1/1/2023 | St. Francois State Park | Bonne Terre, MO
Come out to St. Francois State Park on New Year's Day for a First Day Hike on Swimming Deer Trail. Considered moderately difficult, Swimming Deer Trail travels in the river bottom, along bluffs overlooking the Big River, and through the woods. This 3.15-mile hike should take about two and a half hours to complete.
Participants are encouraged to wear good hiking shoes, dress appropriately for the weather, and bring water – the park’s water will be turned off. Vault toilets are available in the campground, but the showerhouse restroom will be closed. Leashed dogs are welcome provided they are respectful to other hikers and dogs and are cleaned up after.
If the threat of inclement weather is forecast, those interested in attending the hike should check for updates by visiting the Park and Site Status Map, by referring to the Facebook event listing, or by calling the park office at 573-358-2173.
This event is free and open to the public. Meet at the trailhead in the campground.
Registration for this event is required, and a sign-up link will be available here: https://icampmo1.usedirect.com/MSPWeb/Activities/Search.aspx.
