National Walk Your Dog Day

3/8/2025 | Mastodon State Historic Site | Imperial, MO

Please note that this event has been rescheduled from Feb. 22 to March 8 due to winter weather.

Feb. 22 is National Walk Your Dog Day! We had hoped that this would be the perfect day to get explore a Missouri state park or historic with your furry friends; however, the weather had other ideas. Due to snowfall and extremely cold temperatures in the week leading up to National Walk Your Dog Day, this event has been moved to Saturday, March 8.

From 10-11 a.m., dogs and their humans are invited to take a self-guided walk along Spring Branch Trail at Mastodon State Historic Site. There will be a staffed table at the trailhead with information about the site and a map of other state parks and historic sites to explore with your pets. In addition, a staff member will be handing out dog treats and crafts for humans and their pups (while supplies last).

If you can't make it to the site between 10 and 11 a.m., you can still walk your dog on the trails at Mastodon! The trails are open from 8 a.m. until a half hour past sunset year-round.

This event is free and open to the public, and there is no need to register. Dogs must be kept on a leash no longer than 10 feet at all times, and visitors must clean up their pets' waste. For more information about visiting Missouri State Parks with your furry friends, click here.
