Join Missouri State Parks staff for a trip to Watkins Woolen Mill State Park and State Historic Site. We will be taking a bus from the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center, located at 4750 Troost Ave. in Kansas City.
The booming plantation’s elegant home and three-story woolen mill have been preserved to give visitors a sense of life in the 1870s. The group will tour the family home and woolen mill. The mill is the only 19th century textile mill in the United States with its original machinery still intact. In the summer, the living history farm demonstrations focus on the way people lived and played in the 19th century. There will be costumed interpretive staff showing what life in rural Missouri in the 1870s looked like. Participants are welcome to walk around the grounds and visit the site’s visitor center that captures the Watkins family lifestyle and many business ventures.
Registration is required, and limited space is available. Contact Melissa at 816-759-7313, ext. 1162, to register. Please bring a lunch to enjoy outside. Coolers with ice will be provided for your use. Dress appropriately for activities and the weather.
