Truman Day

Celebrate Lamar in the 1940s. Truman impersonator Raymond Startzmann will deliver Truman's 1944 Vice Presidential nomination acceptance speech on the steps of the Barton County Courthouse at 1p.m., and then will walk to the historic site for cake to celebrate Harry Truman's 130th birthday. Throughout the day, staff will provide children's activities including making World War II airplanes and silly putty.  A 1940s game of Bingo will be held at 10a.m. Clothing from the 1940s, provided by Powers Museum, will be on display. The day will end with music from FOG Barbershop Quartet. This event is being held in conjunction with the Barton County Chamber of Commerce.  Click here to read the news release.
