First Day Birding Hike - CANCELLED

1/1/2018 | Arrow Rock State Historic Site | Arrow Rock, MO

Due to the forecasted low temperatures, this hike is cancelled.

This hike will focus on bird watching and hike leaders are from the Missouri River Bird Observatory.  The 2.5-mile hike will start at the state historic site’s visitor center and continue through the woods to the Big Spring and then down the Historic River Landing Trail to the Lewis and Clark Trail of Discovery on the Big Muddy National Fish and Wildlife Refuge.  Trails are moderate but steeper inclines may be encountered between the visitor center and the Big Spring.

Dogs on leashes are welcome. This hike is not recommended for strollers or children under five. Bring water, snacks, cameras and binoculars. Make sure everyone in the family has sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. If there is enough interest and time following the trail hike, we will hike over to the Big Soldier Lake and do some birding around there. In the event of inclement weather (snow or ice-covered roads) the hike will be canceled.

Hike time: 8 a.m. - 10:30 a.m.
Meeting Location: Visitor Center

This hike is part of a national First Day Hikes initiative by America's State Parks. For more information and a list of other First Day Hikes in Missouri State Parks, click here.
