Trail of the Month: Passport to Health

Thanks for everyone who made the Trail of the Month: Passport to Health program such a success. This program was designed to run through the end of 2007 and will not be extended. Watch for details on several new and exciting programs that will be offered, including a new passport program.
The deadline for turning in your passports to qualify for incentives and for entry into the grand prize drawing was Feb. 1, 2008.
Grand Prize
Congratulations to Kelly V. Tindall of Portageville, Mo., for being the grand prize winner. Kelly will receive the eTrex Legend Adventure package, sponsored by Bass Pros - St. Louis. This package includes the Garmin eTrex Legend GPS handheld unit, MapSource TOPO CD, training video, PC cable and 12-volt adapter cable.

Warm Up and Cool Down --Take five to 10 minutes before your hike to walk around on easy terrain to get your heart rate elevated. --Stretch your calve and hamstring muscles after your warm-up and again after the cool down to prevent injury, promote flexibility and prevent soreness. Begin by stretching until you feel tightness. Hold stretches for 15 seconds and repeat once. --Cool down by slowing to a stroll for four to five minutes. |
| Walking Sticks Walking sticks, which can be purchased at parks with stores or gift shops will help prevent sore knees by taking some of the pressure off of your knee joints and leg muscles, putting it on your arm and shoulder muscles. |
