"HISTORIC MEDICINE" PROGRAM IS JULY 12
AT NATHAN BOONE HOMESTEAD STATE HISTORIC SITE
JEFFERSON CITY, MO., JULY 1, 2008 -- Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site near Ash Grove will host a living history demonstration entitled "Boone Family Medicine" on Saturday, July 12. Sponsored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the event is from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is free and open to the public.
Living historian Tim Fields will be discussing 19th century medical practices in the Ozarks. The program will focus on the work of Dr. Robert Coates Prunty, an early physician in the Ash Grove area. Prunty married Nathan Boone's daughter, Mahalia, in 1848. After Mahalia's death, Prunty remarried one of Boone's granddaughters.
Nathan Boone Homestead State Historic Site is located 1.5 miles north of Ash Grove on State Highway V. The site includes Missouri frontiersman Nathan Boone's hewn log home, 400 acres of scenic Ozarks farmland and Boone's last resting place. Regular tours of Nathan Boone's home are available.
