Canceled: 2020 Salt River Quilt and Craft Show

10/3/2020 to 10/4/2020 | Mark Twain Birthplace State Historic Site | Florida, MO

This event has been canceled.

Mark Twain State Park and State Historic Site and the Monroe County Historical Society will be hosting their Fifth Annual Salt River Quilt and Craft Show on the weekend of Oct. 3-4, 2020. The quilt show will be held inside the Mark Twain Memorial Shrine from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 3, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4. Approximately 100 quilts will be hung in the museum's two galleries.

The concurrent craft show will be held in Mark Twain State Park's Buzzard's Roost Picnic Area, located a mile south of the shrine. There, food, craft and quilt-related vendors will be set up inside Huckleberry Hall during the same days and hours as the quilt show, except on Sunday, when the craft show will end at 4 p.m. If visitors choose, they can enjoy their lunch under the trees on the lovely park grounds outside Huck Hall. Attend both the quilt and craft show for the chance to win a lovely prize.

This year's quilt show theme is "It's Not Always Pink.” The show will feature quilts promoting awareness of all special causes, including but not limited to October's breast cancer awareness with its pink ribbon. Other quilt categories this year will include patriotic quilts – as it is an election year – quilts featuring Missouri wildlife, miscellaneous quilts (including antique) and quilts made by people 18 years and younger. Any size quilt will be accepted in all categories. The quilts will be judged in each category, and ribbons and prizes will be awarded.

A special attraction at the quilt show this year will be an early showing of the Missouri Bicentennial Quilt, representing the culture or history of each county in Missouri. Missouri became a state on Aug. 10, 1821.

Live presentations will be offered at the Mark Twain Memorial Shrine on Saturday during quilt show hours (specific times and topics to be announced) and at Huckleberry Hall on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to see the quilt and craft shows is free.
