Folk Arts "Hammer-in" at Jefferson Landing State Historic Site

4/25/2015 | Missouri State Museum | Jefferson City, MO

Come to the Lohman Building for a traditional outdoor blacksmith "hammer-in."  In partnership with the Missouri Folk Arts Program, the site will host three master blacksmiths from Missouri, who will demonstrate a variety of blacksmithing techniques using coal forges, anvils and various handmade tools. Blacksmith Bernard Tappel, Jefferson City, will create Osage/Gasconade River "gigs," used in "gigging" for fish at night. Robert Alexander, De Soto, and Pat Mcarty, Washington, will create and display functional and artistic hand forged objects for restoration and custom projects. Both combine blacksmithing and woodworking skills in their work. For more information, contact the Missouri State Museum at 573-751-2854.
