1/1/2014 | Bennett Spring State Park | Lebanon, MO
This self-guiding Hide and Seek Hike is a fun activity to enjoy on Oak Hickory Trail. Pick up an activity sheet and map at the nature center to start. Look for things hidden along the trail and identify ‘footprints’ with a mammal track card provided. There will be prizes for all participants!
The trail is so named for the deciduous forest type composed of different kinds of oak and hickory trees. The trail follows a generally gentle grade up and along the hillside to the east of the nature center. Entrances to the trail are behind the nature center and the trail overlaps with Bridge Trail for a portion of the distance. At the top of the hill, the latter branches off further up the hill and winds down to other trails to the north. Much of the tread is narrow, rocky in some places. As the trail reaches the bottom of the hill, it crosses a small stream and winds through a bottomland forest of hackberry, elm, oak and shrubs.
Hike times: 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Meeting location: Bennett Spring Nature Center
