Debut of New Benton Artwork

4/14/2013 to 4/30/2013 | Thomas Hart Benton Home and Studio State Historic Site | Kansas City, MO

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has acquired a rare and unusual piece of Benton artwork. In 1911 or 1912, Thomas Hart Benton painted an abstract design on a silk tablecloth as a gift for his mother, Elizabeth Wise Benton. Tom Benton was only 22 years old at the time, and freshly returned from his studies in Paris. The decorated tablecloth will be unveiled at the historic site at the conclusion of the annual public meeting on Sunday, April 14, 2013. The meeting will begin at 2 p.m. at the home and the public is invited. Site staff will be on hand to discuss recent changes at the Benton Home, plans for future projects, and a brief overview of Missouri State Parks. Light refreshments will be served. Guided tours of the home and studio will be available before and after the meeting.
