The trail is temporarily closed east of Clifton City from MM 213.8 to MM 214.1 to allow for replacement of three bridges. A detour route on Mt. Moriah Road (which is gravel) is available and signs are posted to direct trail users around the closure. While following the detour, trail users may experience the following: travel over city streets and highways; motor vehicles traveling at high speeds; uneven or loose gravel on road surfaces; and narrow roads and lanes. It is anticipated the construction will be completed by Jan. 15, 2014.
Visitors can expect delays through the remainder of the year due to construction on the new Missouri River bridge on Hwy. 40/61. Overpass closures and lane restrictions may slow down traffic.
The Hwy. 92 bridge that passes over Hwy. 45 when heading toward Leavenworth, Kan., is closed through approximately December. The bridge is being replaced (main bridge over the river remains open). Visitors to Weston Bend State Park coming from that direction or headed out toward that direction will be detoured about three miles to the south on the Hwy. 45 spur. The detour could take between 10-15 minutes.
The steel bridge over Little Bonne Femme Creek on Springbrook Trail remains closed due to flood damage. Once repairs can be completed, the bridge will be reopened.
The boat ramp is temporarily closed due to extremely low lake levels. All other areas of the park remain open under normal on-season operations.
Pets, food and disposable containers are not allowed on the trail to the shut-ins. This includes disposable drink containers. Please be prepared by bringing drinking water in a non-disposable container.
Alta Shelter is closed until further notice due to fire damage. Cochran and Walnut shelters remain open for reservation and use.
